Five Relationships Wade Welles Never Had

i.
This slide was...stranger than usual.

Wade spent the night at the bar in the Chandler Hotel, coaxing answers out of the cute British boy who wandered in. He answered her willingly, made her laugh a few times, bought her a drink or six.

Then he asked, "Why don't you know about all this? A bit hard to miss."

The drinks made her head swim. "I've been overseas?"

His skeptical expression made it obvious that it wasn't acceptable. So she shrugged and gave up: "I'm from another universe."

"Oh, brilliant," he said, expression clearing right up. "So'm I. Another round, then?"

ii.
"Men suck," a voice announced, and the pretty blond girl sat down at Wade's table without waiting for an answer. "As a whole? Regardless of species, men suck. That's all there is."

Wade blinked at her, then let the species remark drop. Different worlds and all. "Well," she said cautiously. "Not all men."

"All men," the girl insisted. "All men ever. Even Kyle, who I thought might be different—all men suck." She gave Wade an appraising look, then stuck out a hand and said, "I'm Tess."

"Wade." Bemused, Wade shook her hand.

"Wanna go somewhere where there's no men?"

iii.
He teaches her chess.

The professor had tried teaching her, once; she'd thought it was dull.

But when he talks about chess, he makes it sound sensual and exciting and sexy. She likes listening to him—watching him.

He tells her about tournaments, world championships, Anatoly, Florence; if he sounds a little sadder when he talks of them she doesn't press him.

On the day they're scheduled to leave, she manages to keep one game going for almost twenty moves and she kisses him before she says goodbye.

She's not sure whether the kiss or the game surprises him more.

iv.
There was a photograph stuck between the pages of the journal Wade carried with her from world to world.

The boy in the picture could only be described as pretty. Scruffy and scarred, he was pretty—fair hair, light eyes, a charming smile.

Sloppy handwriting sprawled across the back: If you ever get to NY look me and my brothers up. I'll always think of Wade when I think of SF. Love, Seannie.

Wade treasured it. Whenever they were stranded for more than a week she thought about checking phonebooks.

When Remmy teased her about her journal, she just smiled.

v.
He introduced himself grandly: "Carlos Ramirez at your service. But call me Carlos."

When Wade shook his hand, he lingered over it for just a moment longer than she'd have expected.

She didn't think much of it. At least, not until she was running for her life from vampires and found herself rescued by a man who snarled Spanish phrases and hurled green bursts of what could only be magic.

When it was over, he swept her away to his family's restaurant for a drink to help recover, apologizing profusely.

She nodded and smiled and asked for another drink, please.

Five Relationships Roger Davis Never Had

i.
"I don't see how you can compare us," the bassist sulked. "At least Driveshaft was successful."

"Yeah, well..." Roger stopped for a moment to think. The only comeback he could manage was: "At least The Well Hungarians didn't sellout."

"Your band's name was The Well Hungarians. You sold out the moment you named yourselves."

"Right," Roger retorted, nettled. "Like Driveshaft has no sexual connotation."

Charlie grinned. "Never said it didn't, mate."

"Well..." Roger took a deep breath and a moment to be astonished at his own lack of standards before going ahead: "You wanna see how well-hungarian my driveshaft is?"

ii.
Where Collins had picked up the little punk remained a mystery, but Roger decided he wouldn't ask. Mainly because he was afraid Joey would answer, and getting the kid to shut up once had been hard enough. Anyway that was one of the things about the loft; if you had nowhere else to go, nobody was going to ask questions. It was one of the reasons Roger loved the place.

Except when Joey sat on the couch and started spinning a tale about some guy Jimmy, Roger found himself intrigued despite himself—both by the story and by the storyteller.

iii.
"I'm investigating a story," she said doggedly.

"Go investigate it somewhere else," he shot back. "You're from that tabloid rag, right? The World Chronicle."

She looked offended. "It's not a rag!"

He laughed.

She sighed. "Your band played here last night?"

"Yeah, so?"

"Did you see anything strange?"

"Aside from you?" he purred.

She grinned. "I wasn't here last night, Mr. Davis."

"No, but you're here now, and—"

"I was thinking more along the lines of werewolves."

"None, honey. Just groupies."

She looked at him thoughtfully. "You're playing again tonight?"

"That's right. You gonna come?"

She grinned. "I might."

iv.
"Captain Jack Harkness," he'd introduced himself rather pretentiously. But he was hot, Mark and Collins were out of town, April was busy, and Roger was lonely, so he let it pass.

"You're Roger Davis, right?" Jack Harkness asked, looking at him with hungry eyes.

"Yeah. Why, you a fan of the band?"

"You could say that." Jack's hand drifted lightly over Roger's thigh. "More a fan of you, to be honest."

When Roger woke up, the loft was empty, and there was a note tacked to the wall.

I had a great time. Let's do it again sometime. – Captain Jack

v.
Well, what was he supposed to do? The guy practically had an epileptic seizure and landed smack in Roger's lap.

For a second he'd actually thought that it might be an epileptic seizure and gotten worried. Then he'd made out what he was yelling.

"Gus! Gus! I can see it! They're taking him! I know where they're going! Gus!"

'Gus' just looked tired.

"Are you fucking insane?" Roger demanded, and the guy seemed to snap into focus, realizing that he was sprawled rather suggestively on the rocker's lap.

"Hi," he said brightly, making no move to get up. "I'm Shawn."

BONUS: When Wade (Never) Met Roger

"I know you," Roger said with utter certainty.

Wade blinked at him. "Oh. Do you?"

"Did we make out at the Bottom Line in New York about four years ago?"

"Um. Could have done?" She honestly had no idea what her alternate self might have been up to four years ago, but there were worse ways she could have spent the time than making out with this gorgeous boy.

Roger nodded, satisfied. "You were amazing," he added, and then a dark-haired girl Wade guessed was his girlfriend called him over and the conversation was done.

Wade smiled to herself, bemused.

Final count: Wade (Sliders) got hooked up with Mickey Smith (Doctor Who), Tess Harding (Roswell), Freddie Trumper (Chess), Sean Donnelly (The Black Donnellys), and Carlos Ramirez (Dresden Files bookverse). Roger (Rent) wound up paired with Charlie Pace (Lost), Joey Ice Cream (The Black Donnellys), Grace Hall (The Chronicle), Captain Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/Torchwood), and Shawn Spencer (Psych). And finally, they wound up talking with each other.
Yes, I know TBD is represented twice. I couldn't help it. It was calling for it.

Wade/Mickey would have like the perfect relationship. No lie. TRUTH.

Aww, obscure fandoms for the lose. *emo tear* But trust that they are all ridiculously pretty and would be ridiculously pretty with Wade?
